A woman formerly staying at a women’s sobriety home in the state of California allegedly stole a minivan and engaged in a hours-long law enforcement pursuit culminating with her crossing the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on Monday.

Vehicle Theft Discovered from Recovery Residence

As stated in a law enforcement announcement, a another female, the owner of the vehicle, forty-five years old, reported that her gray minivan from 2004 was stolen, along with her car key. Walters, who manages two women’s sober living homes, named the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately an hour’s drive of LA.

“My keys were taken from my house manager’s purse. I happened to pull up just as it was happening,” she said, noting that the minivan is designated for the sobriety home’s tasks.

Dramatic Chase Develops Across Several Regions

Officials tracked the stolen vehicle about 19 kilometers to the north in Simi Valley, where they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop and sped away. She attained speeds of about 145km/h on the State Route 118 until the pursuit continued into Los Angeles county. At that juncture, local sheriff’s deputies handed over the operation to the California highway patrol once the driver merged onto the 405 freeway heading south.

“This incident is particularly unusual in the sense of the road situation allowing drivers to persist on the freeway and extend this pursuit,” said a public information officer from the Ventura county sheriff’s office.

Wilson allegedly avoided all the spike strips deployed on the road by authorities, as seen in aerial videos.

International Getaway and Aftermath Developments

The pursuit finally arrived at the US-Mexico border by 1.30pm, prompting the highway patrol to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.

Walters stated on Tuesday that the minivan was located in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was working with the CHP to retrieve it.

“At the end of the day, I’m not worried about the vehicle,” she remarked. “I’m relieved aware she wasn’t hurt. The car is replaceable.”

Walters, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from addiction and trauma is often non-linear.

“This represents a psychological and addiction emergency,” she said. “There is a need for additional assistance. We need greater resources for those that are facing challenges.”
